“In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight. Let all who worship evil’s might, beware my power, Green Lantern’s light!”-Hal Jordan.
The green represents the power of Will which eventually defeats the yellow power of Fear. Yes, you got me. I netflixed and chilled on some Green Lantern power last night. Other than being jealous of Blake Lively’s gorgeous body for an hour and fifty minutes, I absorbed some green power from the movie too. Ultimately, we are only human. It’s not normal to be absolutely fearless. In today’s society, either due to social media’s constant exposure, or increasing competition in the over populated mega cities, or forever advancing technology, we are developing even more fear towards…everything. Some common phobias are claustrophobia (fear of confined or crowded spaces), astraphobia (fear of thunder and lighting), hemophobia (fear of blood), autophobia (fear of being alone) and more. According to the Anxiety Disorders Association of Canada “One in four Canadians (25%) will have at least one anxiety disorder in their lifetime.” And I won’t be surprised if this number increases some more in the future.
Are you one of them? I know I am. I have experienced some serious panic attacks and my constant anxiety is now affecting my heart rate and blood pressure to a point that I need 2 kinds of medication daily to keep everything under control. Though some of these mental conditions have biological factors, I feel obligated to address the concept of Fear. In the movie, Hal Jordan pointed out to the immortals that they were afraid to admit that they were afraid of Parallax. It is ok to be afraid. We just cannot give in to fear. Courage is the word to conquer fear, not pretending to be fearless. How strong is your will power? How strong can it be? In order to become a badass in life, our Will power or faith must be stronger than our fear, the fear of not getting what we want, the fear of the unknown.
To me, the Green Lantern’s power is very similar to the Law of Attraction. Using willpower alone, you can pretty much do…ANYTHING, the limit is only to your imagination. So in a strange way, we all have this Green Lantern power in us, don’t you agree? I believe that I can achieve what I want in life, and I believe that I am enough as I am right now. ” Beware my power, Green Lantern’s light! “
